If it is true that experience brings wisdom, then Spahr Metric, Inc. knows a thing or two about metric sized steel and metric metal as well as metric fasteners.
With beginnings in Switzerland over 124 years ago, Spahr Metric established its U.S. office in Winchester, Virginia in 1997 after recognizing a need for a more cost-effective way to distribute to its U.S. customers.
After operating in the U.S. for over eight years, expanding our customer base – in late 2005, Spahr Metric, Inc. Winchester detached from its Swiss parent company. Chantal Aeschbach-Powell, the former VP who spearheaded the start-up of the Winchester Office, became a partner and President/CEO of the business in 2010. Most recently, in August of 2018, Matthew Mowery, with the company since 2004 and Chantal purchased the remainder of the business from Hans-Peter Engeler.
Expansion and changes aside, our future success still lies in the experience and knowledge garnered from our past and the personal attention we guarantee to each and every customer along the way. Our History
Specializing in the import and distribution of metric sized steel and metal as well as metric and US sized fasteners. Spahr Metric supplies businesses within the manufacturing industry, end users, universities, machine shops and distributors.
Some examples; metal fabrication, wind energy, construction, mining, and oil and gas among others.
Our Winchester, VA warehouse opened in 1997 and detached from its Swiss parent company in late 2004. Now a self-certified small, disadvantaged, women-owned business, we leverage our extensive market knowledge and our motivated, responsible and well educated team to provide our customers with the best personal service, exceptional product familiarity, extensive product availability and innovative solutions to meet their needs.
We believe that good service is worrying about the details so that our customers don’t have to. We stock most common sized metric steel, process special orders, and warehouse product. Our 15,000 square foot facility houses over 30,000 items that can be released, JIT “just in time” to our growing customer base. Essentially, we order what our customers need for a specified period of time and warehouse it, so they don’t have to wait for materials. This way they can order one piece or one hundred and only be invoiced once the product has been shipped. By taking this risk, Spahr is able to offer customers consistent, low-cost pricing as long as the product is in stock. Only after the product on our shelves has been consumed is the price subject to change.
