How We Handle AD/CVD Restricted Items

If you landed here from a warning on a plate or sheet product, you can still add that item to your quote. This page is not a stop sign. It is a heads-up that those products sit in a legally restricted category, and your sales rep will confirm availability and options when they follow up.

For the background on antidumping (AD) and countervailing duties (CVD), read our educational article: Understanding Antidumping and Countervailing Duties.

What this notice applies to

On our site, this applies to metric plate and sheet steel. Other products we sell may be covered by this notice.

U.S. AD/CVD orders are written by product description, not by the word “metric.” If a plate or sheet matches the scope of an active order, Customs will not clear it as a normal import. Rates can exceed 100%. A single non-compliant entry can trigger retroactive duties, penalties, and audits that would put this company at serious risk. We will not take that chance.

You can still request a quote

Add the plate or sheet to your quote the same way you would any other item. Submitting it does not mean we will import a restricted product. It means we know what you need and will work the request.

When a sales rep reaches out about your quote, they will tell you one of the following:

  • Whether that exact spec can be sourced through a compliant channel
  • What alternative grade, finish, size, or supply path can meet the same job
  • If we cannot supply it at all, and why

That conversation happens after the quote, not at the cart. Keep the item on the request so we have the spec in writing.

How we handle these requests

We are in the business of getting you the metric metal you need. Restricted plate and sheet just cannot move through our normal import path.

  • We do not import material we believe falls under an active AD/CVD order.
  • We do not ask you to “try it and see if Customs lets it through.”
  • We look first for a compliant substitute that still fits the application.
  • If no good option exists, we say so plainly instead of taking a legal risk on your order or ours.

What we need from you

When you quote plate or sheet, include as much spec detail as you have: grade, thickness, dimensions, coating or finish, quantity, and the job it has to do. The more complete the request, the faster we can tell you whether a legal path exists or what we recommend instead.

Questions before you submit? Call us or leave a note on the quote. We would rather sort this on the front end than leave you waiting on material that cannot clear Customs.
